CG Pitcher & Son of Sturminster Newton was founded by Edward Pitcher in 1903. Edward passed the business on to his son, Cyril George Pitcher. In the early 1960s Cyril was joined by son Graham and the name of CG Pitcher & Son was born.

In 2006 Graham's son Mark became the fourth generation to join the family business that had grown to work nationally, undertaking all forms of construction, mostly general repair and maintenance but also new build projects up to £2m in value.

Julie Anne Palmer and Simon Campbell from the Salisbury office of insolvency specialist Begbies Traynor have been appointed joint administrators.

In 2007 CG Pitcher & Son won the Dorset Family Business of the Year award from the Dorset Chamber of Commerce, in recognition of its excellence in customer service, staff training and business development.
