Outline planning for the redevelopment at the racecourse was granted in April 2010. Plans include improvements to the racing, hospitality, conference and events facilities, better access via a new bridge, a hotel, and up to 1500 new homes to be built by joint venture partner David Wilson Homes.
The Western Residential Area of the redevelopment, now cleared by the council, is the first of three proposed tranches of new homes at the racecourse. This first tranche comprises 294 homes for private sale and 127 for affordable housing.
The joint venture is expected to take up to 12 years to complete the whole development project.
