Over the past 12 months Balfour Beatty has won £3,135.3m of new construction work, according to data gathered by The Builders’ Conference, making it a clear winner.
Laing O’Rourke was in second place with £2,594.8m and Morgan Sindall third with £1,999.5m. They might not have been the best performing construction companies of 2015 or the most profitable, but they won the most work.
Morgan Sindall also won more individual pieces of new business than any other construction company in 2015, with 220 contract awards.
At an awards dinner in London last week, The Builders’ Conference presented Balfour Beatty with a winner’s trophy.
It also gave its ‘new business achievement award’ for the subcontractor that had grown turnover the most orders during the past 12 month. This went to piling specialist Van Elle.
There was also a special ‘president’s award’ for a company that has ‘stood out in terms of new construction orders’. This went Hill Partnerships, which won 15 contracts in 2015 worth £280.4m in aggregate.
The Builders’ Conference chief executive Neil Edwards said: “There are lots of great construction awards out there but ours are transparent as they are based wholly upon mathematics. Balfour Beatty, Van Elle and Hill Partnership each achieved an incredible performance during 2015 and we are delighted to recognise and reward that achievement.”
