16 Jan 17 Royal Boskalis Westminster has received a letter of intent for the award of a €480m (£419m) contract for work at Duqm port in Oman.

The project involves the engineering, design, procurement and construction of a bulk liquid berth terminal. Boskalis will carry out various dredging and civil activities including the deepening of the port basin to a depth of 18m, reclamation of new land and the construction of a 1km quay wall, a double berth jetty island and stone revetment.

Boskalis’ dredging will be executed by its new mega cutter Helios, which will be taken into service mid-2017, and a jumbo hopper and medium-sized trailer suction hopper dredger.

The Port of Duqm is a trategic dry dock and industrial free trade zone located between Muscat and Salalah and has been designated as a Special Economic Zone. The contract will be awarded by Special Economic Zone Authority Duqm (Sezad).

Design activities are expected to start in the next few weeks and equipment is due to be mobilised in the middle of this year. The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
