Atkins exchanged contracts with Henry Boot Developments to lease a 21,300 sq ft office at the Westlakes Science & Technology Park near Whitehaven where up to 200 members of staff working in Atkins’ nuclear business will be based.

Construction on the £3.5m scheme, designed by Hurd Rolland Partnership, is scheduled for completion in May 2015.

The office will provide a hub for Atkins staff in the northwest.

Robertson regional director Martin Westgate said: “We are proud to be working with Atkins and Henry Boot Developments and this is an important project in the development of our presence in the northwest. This is the first of two projects Robertson is about to start in the area and we will be working hard to ensure we use local trades to achieve 80% local employment.”

Construction will incorporate locally-sourced materials including the Westmoreland Green Slate, sourced from the Honister Pass quarry in Keswick.
