The cable-stayed crossing, which has been designed by White Young Green and Doran Consulting, is intended to boost the on-going redevelopment of Strabane.
Social development minister Nelson McCausland said that the creation of the bridge will create opportunities for two disadvantage communities to forge closer social, business and leisure relations. “The bridge will be seen as a landmark throughout the town for both local residents and visitors providing an important link across the river for pedestrians and cyclists, creating better access to facilities,” he said.
During the next few months enabling works will be completed to prepare the area for the main construction contract to begin. Construction is set to begin this summer and the bridge is due to be finished by the summer of 2015.
