Chris Webster was chief executive of privately-owned Miller Construction for four years until last year. Before that, he spent nearly 20 years at Amey, latterly as chief operating officer and a main board director.
FM Conway hopes that having his experience on board will help grow the business.
Chief operating officer Andrew Hansen said: “As a business we’ve enjoyed phenomenal growth in recent years. Our order books are buoyant and we’ve won some big contracts recently as clients continue to wake up to the benefits that our self-delivery model can offer. However there are still real opportunities out there, and we want to be in the best place possible to take advantage of these opportunities, especially as the market continues to pick up pace. We are confident that with Chris’ vast expertise and industry knowledge behind us, we can continue the strong and sustained growth of the business in the months and years to come.”
Mr Webster himself said: “FM Conway has had a massive impact on the highways industry in the southeast. The company has changed the way the sector thinks about the supply of materials, and in doing so has carved out for itself a leading position in the market – an achievement that’s reflected in FM Conway’s remarkable growth in recent years. This is a great company with a fantastic ethos and culture, and I’m joining at a time when there are excellent opportunities for further growth and success. It’s an exciting move for me and I look forward to helping to take FM Conway to the next level.”
