Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx selected the three teams based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began in October 2016 (link to TCI’s Canadian site opens in new tab).
Selection criteria included design, construction, maintenance and operational experience, as well as the financial capacity to deliver the project.
The Hurontario LRT project includes 20km of new dedicated rapid transit between Port Credit GO Station in Mississauga and the Gateway Terminal in Brampton. There will be 22 surface stops along the way, with connections to other services. In addition, there will be a maintenance and storage facility for the light rail vehicles. The project value has been estimated at some CA$1.4bn (£800m).
