The contractor, working with the design team of Mace and local architects Roberts Limbrick, revised the scheme to help bring costs down from the original budget of £21m to save money.
Construction is scheduled to begin in July.
The Academy will continue to operate in its current buildings until the new building is ready to move into, which is expected to be in time for the start of the school year in September 2013.
The new school will take up to 1,250 pupils and will specialise in digital technology & computing and vocational education. It is sponsored by Prospects and Gloucestershire College.
The design of the building features a two-storey 950sq m open space at its centre, as a light and airy focal point.
The project includes a separate sports complex and outdoor sports facilities that will also be available for wider community use.
