The project will see work across four main facilities. These are: a new grammar school at Kirkwall including an arts theatre; halls of residence at Papdale; a new primary school in Stromness; and a new swimming pool and squash courts at the Pickaquoy Centre along with three all-weather pitches.
Construction starts this week on three of the four projects. Work at Papdale will start in 2012. As part of the contract Galliford Try Facilities Management will provide a range of services for 10 years including building and grounds maintenance.
Greg Fitzgerald, chief executive of Morrison’s parent company Galliford Try, said: "We are pleased to have been awarded this important contract with the Orkney Islands Council. We look forward to working closely with all the stakeholders to develop high quality facilities which will provide excellent benefits to the whole community."
