Skanska wins Finnish hospital contract

31 Jan 17 Skanska, Caverion and Sweco have entered into a €153m (£130m) alliance contract to build the Kainuu Central Hospital in Kajaani, Finland.

Skanska Finland’s share of the contract with Kainuu Social & Health Care Joint Authority is worth €69m.

Construction is divided into three phases, starting with construction of most of the new hospital building. The second phase includes renovating the existing hospital emergency care building and the third phase involves demolishing decommissioned sections and finalising work in outdoor areas. The overall scope of the project is about 46,000 gross square metres, of which about 5% involves basic renovation.

The current hospital will remain in operation throughout the project, without the need for temporary facilities.

Construction will begin next month and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
