Julie Carrier has joined WSP as head of rail from Amey, where she was programme director and worked on such projects as Crossrail and the Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP).

Before working at Amey, Ms Carrier was engineering director at Colas Rail.

WSP is targeting the rail sector for growth. Last year it recruited Chris Lawrence from Arup as head of rail systems, after Jason Butterworth left for Mace.

WSP head of infrastructure Duncan Symonds said: “We are now focussing on developing our rail business into a wider service offering both in the UK and to support our global business.

“Julie brings with her a reputation of strong leadership, collaborative working, extensive knowledge of the industry and strong client relationship ethos, all of which sits well with our vision to deliver the right solution for our clients, not the most obvious solution.

“You can only push the barriers when you have the very best talent and that’s what our strategy has been over the last year or so – recruiting the cream of the crop in the industry and harnessing it to provide outstanding services for our clients.”

Ms Carrier said: “I’m excited to be part of a team that offers a different approach in the UK rail industry. My goal is to double revenue over the next two years and we will achieve this through challenge, innovation and strong working relationships built on trust.”
