Communities Secretary John Denham has approved plans for 1,000 new homes in Daventry, Northamptonshire – but rejected other planning applicationsfor a further 8,000 homes in the town.
The proposals, which would have almost doubled the size of the town, were subject to a public inquiry last year.
Following this process, Denham has given the green light for 1,000 new homes on land at Monksmoor Farm, Welton Lane, subject to a number of conditions and a section 106 agreement.
The Communities Secretary rejected appeals by the Danetree Consortium for over 5,000 new homes on land east of Daventry, and by Croudace Homes for up to 4,000 homes on land at Long Buckby Road.
There was considered to be insufficient infrastructure to support the proposed developments.
