$55m contract let for Iraq blast protection

5 Mar 12 A subsidiary of US civils and building contractor Tutor Perini has won a US$55m (£34.8m) contract for blast protection at three locations in Iraq.

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Middle East District awarded Perini Management the task order, which was competitively bid under a multi-year programme for work in a 20-country region.

The project involves the design and construction of overhead ballistic covers to protect US government personnel at three locations in Iraq. Perini has built 127 similar structures at military and diplomatic installations in Iraq over the past seven years. The covers are built over existing temporary structures such as dining facilities and housing units to deflect and prevent damage from indirect fire of rockets and mortars.

Perini’s team includes Tetra Tech of Pasadena for architectural and engineering services.
