£7 million Refurbishment of Dollan Aqua Centre

30 May 11 The refurbishment of the Dollan Aqua Centre, East Kilbride has been completed by Clark Contracts.

The refurbishment of this A listed facility included major structural works, new floor, wall and ceiling finishes, mechanical and electrical services and an environmental clean.

Gordon Cunningham, managing director, Clark Contracts said: "We were able to draw on our experience of working on both leisure facilities and listed buildings."

Dollan Aqua Centre is scheduled to open its doors to the public on Saturday 28th May.  Before closing for refurbishment, it was used by 7,000 customers a week and is one of only five 50m competition pools in Scotland.

Designed by Alexander Buchanan Campbell and first opened in 1968, the centre features a vaulted 324ft parabolic arched roof.  In 1993, it was listed as one of sixty key monuments in Scottish post-war architecture and in 2002, it was designated as a category A listed building by Historic Scotland.

It is one of the key venues for the 2011 Children's Games in Lanarkshire.
