The next stage of development of the Albert Dock area in east London has moved a step closer with a call for tenders to build a new residential neighbourhood on the Gallions Quarter site.
Gallions Quarter is a 3.41 hectare (8.43 acre) brownfield site in the Royal Docks, identified for development by the London Development Agency. The masterplan envisages construction of approximately 650 homes and associated community services such as small-scale retail units.
The tender document issued by the agency states: “The LDA wishes to create a distinctive neighbourhood with a choice of housing typology and character, a real sense of place, and which is physically integrated with surrounding communities.”
