Sir Robert McAlpine has been appointed as main contractor for the construction of a £130m residential scheme in the City of London.

Client for the 36-storey tower at Milton Court near the Barbican is Heron International, which is also behind the 222m-high tower at 110 Bishopsgate, the City's tallest building.

The development will include apartments, landscaped roof garden, residents’ club lounge, gym, screening room, and valet parking.

The lower floors of the tower will house the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Work will start next week and is scheduled for completion in 2013.

Heron’s commercial director Lisa Ronson said: “We look forward to working with Sir Robert McAlpine to bring this exclusive development to life, ensuring that the quality of the build and finish is as exceptional as the building’s unique location.”
