A-Plant reports success of training drive

13 May 11 Half of A-Plant’s drivers and fitters and 80% of its rental managers have achieved a level 2 NVQ since the company embarked on a skills and qualifications programme last year.

In 2010, A-Plant embarked on a plan designed to enhance the skills and qualifications of employees at all levels of its business. So far, 180 employees have to gained a formal NVQ qualification under the programme, with a further 400 following in their footsteps.

The rental company has joined forces with a number of training partners and NVQ awarding bodies. As part of the skilled and qualified workforce initiative, three NVQ courses are offered through an on site assessment and training programme.

Since the programme was launched more than 50% of A-Plant’s drivers have achieved the NVQ Level 2 in carry and deliver goods, with a further 20% currently on the programme and the remaining 30% due to be signed up. More than 80% of A-Plant’s Rental Managers have achieved the NVQ Level 2 in hire and rental operations and almost half of the company’s Fitters have completed the NVQ Level 2 in plant maintenance.

“It gives our customers the assurance that A-Plant employees have the necessary skills and competence to fulfil our service commitments to them, whilst helping increase employee satisfaction and morale,” said A-Plant’s talent and organisational culture manager Gràinne Patterson. “Feedback from our learners indicates that they are very positive about having the opportunity to develop their skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification. Our focus has been on accrediting and certifying demonstrable practical skills rather than adopting a purely theoretical or academic approach and our efforts are designed to deliver improved levels of performance in both the current and future roles of our workforce.”
