A-Plant's green power investment tops £1m

25 Feb 14 A-Plant has announced that it has now invested over £1m in eco power specialist Off Grid Energy’s Power Cube, a new hybrid power solution.

A-Plant said that the Power Cube battery generator brings its customers significant fuel savings, reductions in carbon footprint and the ability to monitor energy usage remotely.  The Power Cube works alongside A-Plant’s current power generation fleet and is available to hire from A-Plant Service Centres nationwide.

The Power Cube can be used on its own or in conjunction with a generator or mains supply, and can be supplied as road-towable, static or even with a solar panel.  The use of batteries is a relatively new concept for power generation in the hire industry, said A-Plant, but it believes that the Power Cube offers significant benefits over traditional lead-acid batteries and diesel generators. The gel batteries in the Power Cube have a high energy density which allows for the consumption of all stored energy, giving silent running and a long life cycle.

A-Plant’s accommodation director Ian Needham said: “Traditionally, where temporary power is concerned a generator is required to be on 24 hours a day, but most of that time, particularly at night it is required to work at a lesser rate than normal, yet it still continually uses up diesel fuel which makes it expensive for the customer.  With the Power Cube, when demand for power is low, an automatic signal is given for the generator to be turned off, leaving the battery to deliver power to the load.  This saves the customer huge amounts on their fuel bill and heavily reduces CO2 emissions. We’ve had examples so far where customers have seen a £1,000 plus reduction in their weekly fuel cost, and CO2 emissions reduced by over 3,500kg.”

Danny Jones, managing director of Off Grid Energy said: “We are delighted to be working closely with A-Plant; our relationship has enabled us to use A-Plant’s experience of end-user requirements to develop a product which is delivering major financial and environmental savings. It doesn’t just stop here though, we’re already working on developing the product further with view to offer even greater savings.”
