The estimated project cost, previously put at £450m, is now give as £472m. A further £34m of associated works that might yet be rolled in could take the contract value above £500m

As previously reported, more than 60 organisation have already shown interest in getting involved in the project, turning up to an open day earlier this month.

The contract notice sets out general details of the schemes, which are the design, construction and finance of the 46km dual two-lane Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and associated works and upgrading 12km of the A90 Balmedie-Tipperty to dual two-lane standard.

The contract also includes responsibility to finance, operate and maintenance the roads for 30 years.

The project may also include the design and construction of a 2.4km single carriageway access road for a river crossing scheme in Aberdeen (the Third Don Crossing) and a couple of park & ride projects.

The existing A90 trunk road is part of the main transport corridor connecting Aberdeen with Peterhead and Fraserburgh. The road is dual carriageway from Aberdeen to Balmedie and again north of Tipperty to the A948 junction leading to Ellon.  The annual average daily traffic flow on the road is 20,000 vehicles per day, and the existing single carriageway section is not capable of providing efficient access to and from the north of Aberdeen, particularly at peak periods.

Further details are in our Contract Leads section.
