Abu Dhabi announces major retail project

22 Jan 13 Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), has announced plans to develop a major retail centre in Saadiyat Island’s cultural district.

The project, to be known as the District, will be developed through a joint venture partnership with L Real Estate (LRE).

The District, which is scheduled to be completed by 2017, comprises three levels distributed over 168,000m2 of leasable space with more than 550 units allocated for luxury and fashion brands, dining outlets, department stores, home furnishing chains, art galleries, family entertainment venues and other speciality stores and services.

The 17ha site is alongside three museums – Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi – and will be one of the largest retail complexes in the emirate.

Detailed design will start this year, with construction beginning in 2014 for completion in 2017 around the time of the Guggenheim museum opening.
