Police and paramedics were first called to the site on Manchester Road in Heaton Norris at 9.15am on Tuesday (21st January) after the first worker fell. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
At 3.55pm on the same the police and paramedics back again on the same site after the second man fell through the same roof. He died in hospital from his injuries.
It is understood that the workers were on a demolition contract to bring down the empty units.
Construction union Ucatt said that construction workers must speak out if they had concerns about their safety.
Ucatt regional secretary Andy Fisher said: “This is a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the loved ones of the worker who has died.
“Workers who are concerned that they are being placed in a dangerous situation have the right to refuse work. The challenge is to give workers the confidence to be able to refuse to place themselves in danger.”
