Advanced structural plywood panel from Finnforest saves contractors time

4 Mar 11 Finnforest has successfully developed a patented technology to produce an improved structural spruce plywood panel, Finnforest Spruce WeatherGuard", which will help contractors save time and money.

Lightweight and with a low deflection rate, WeatherGuard has a hydrophobic surface, repelling moisture. This ensures the panel and any structure made from it is temporarily protected from the effects of inclement weather right from the start, while a shorter drying period has time saving benefits for the contractor.

Offering temporary protection against the rain, WeatherGuard panels are breathable so water vapour can flow freely to and fro, providing quicker construction times and faster drying times for buildings. With much lower risk of twisting and warping, WeatherGuard delivers dimensional stability and therefore improved flatness. Similar to most timber panels, WeatherGuard accepts a number of different paints, coatings and glues and thanks to its temporary moisture resistance, WeatherGuard panels have a reduced risk of mould or unsightly blue stain occurring.

As a high performance structural panel Finnnforest Spruce WeatherGuard provides an excellent solution for a number of applications. Used in a variety of roof, floor and wall constructions, as well as for refurbishment work, WeatherGuard is the ideal panel wherever building regulations call for structural panels to be used. WeatherGuard panels are available from stock in thicknesses of 9mm, 12mm, 18mm, 21mm and 24mm. They are also available as special order in 15mm, 27mm and 30mm thicknesses.

An excellent sheathing solution for both visible and non-visible roof applications, Finnforest Spruce WeatherGuard is easy to work with in conjunction with all types of timber joists. Panels can be quickly converted into even and durable surfaces, such as support plates under roofing. Unlike some alternative panels on the market, dimensionally stable, Finnforest Spruce WeatherGuard panels are not prone to warp or twist, so they are installed with ease and can be used as a safe working surface during roof installation too. Providing a smooth surface under roofing, installation of the final roof covering will be easier as a result.

Finnforest Spruce WeatherGuard is also well suited for use as an assembly substrate in floor constructions. With good load bearing capacities providing a smooth and uniform surface, this is an ideal base on which to install almost any floor covering. With tongue and groove joints available to increase the dimensional stability and enable longer clearer spans, construction time savings stand to be made.

Partition and load bearing walls can also be constructed using Finnforest Spruce WeatherGuard. Plywood wall structures have excellent rigidity, load bearing and sheathing capacity. The frame and plywood panels form a precisely dimensioned and rigid structure. Wall structures are thus quick and easy to line and insulate. In exterior applications Finnforest Spruce WeatherGuard can be used for visible and non-visible construction, such as wind break panels or short-term weather protection, thanks to the unique moisture resistance the panels deliver.

For contractors working to tight timescales, Finnforest’s Spruce WeatherGuard panels irrespective of inclement weather offer distinct time savings, allowing work to continue onsite unhindered. The result is improved build programming and a long-lasting, high quality finish.
