Amey signs £50m Kent consultancy deal

22 Feb 13 Kent County Council has awarded Amey a civil engineering consultancy deal worth £5m a year for up to 10 years.

Amey, which took over consulting engineer Owen Williams in 2006 to acquire design expertise, will provide the county council with civil engineering design services for highways, transportation and the environment.

The deal with Britain’s largest local authority runs for an initial five years, starting on 1 April, with a possible five year extension.

Under the new technical and environmental services contract, a percentage of each month’s payment will be set against meeting key performance targets, including working to time, to cost and to expectation.

Kent County Council cabinet member for environment, highways and waste Bryan Sweetland said: “We have run an exhaustive tendering process and selected a very capable supplier that will deliver important services for residents, such as the design of new highway and transportation schemes.

“This is the second major contract Kent has awarded where the suppliers performance in meeting its obligations will be measured against targets. The performance against these measures will be used to assess the payments due on a monthly basis.”

Amey chief executive Mel Ewell said: “Amey is pleased to be starting a new partnership with Kent County Council. We look forward to using our knowledge and experience to improve the county’s highways for the benefit of all those who use them.”
