Atkins helps out in tornado-hit Alabama

23 May 11 Atkins is to help the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) deal with the aftermath of last month’s tornado outbreak in the USA.

Services will be carried out under an existing contract in place with AEMA to augment state staff in the event of a disaster. The contract will also be supported by Atkins’ partners - Louis Berger Group, HDR Engineering, Tidal Basin Government Consulting, H2O Partnersand Florida Disaster Consulting.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of the recent tornado outbreak and their families,” said Atkins emergency management division manager Steve Glenn. “Our contract with AEMA is intended just for this purpose. Atkins and our partners are ready to help residents start getting back to a sense of normalcy and to help businesses get back on their feet.”

Atkins’ services will include support for federal public assistance grants and other disaster assistance programmes, insurance-related issues and environmental issues related to recovery projects. It will also carry out tasks such as financial reporting, long-term community recovery, and debris monitoring and removal operations. Atkins’ assistance under the current task authorisations is expected to remain in effect until August 2011.
