Augers on the track after London rail tunnel lining is breached

11 Mar 13 Train services in north London were disrupted over the weekend after a pair of piling augers burst through the tunnel lining of the Moorgate to Finsbury Park Northern City line.

Excavation work above on a private construction site in the Old Street led to the drilling equipment breaching the railway tunnel.

Fortunately, no rail accident resulted and no one was hurt. All rail services on the Northern City Line were suspended as soon as a train driver spotted muddy water coming in shortly after 10am on Friday morning (8/3/13). By the time Network Rail engineers arrived on the scene, the leak had been followed by the arrival of the augers.
