Balfour Beatty JV scoops £27m Singapore contract

20 Jun 11 Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded Balfour Beatty Rail and Gammon Construction a £27m contract for the civil and track works for two depots.

The scope of works covers the design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of civil works, trackwork and the third rail system for the Ulu Pandan and Bishan depots. Before construction, survey and coordination enabling works will be carried out and this will be completed by the end of 2011.

The Ulu Pandan Depot contract will start on 30 April 2012 and consist of the supply and installation of approximately 700m of new track, five new 1:9 turnouts, 300m of new covered drainage, 1.1km of third rail and two new buffer stops. All new track will be prestressed concrete sleepers with an indirect fastening system on ballast.

The Bishan depot civil work consists predominantly of civil works  The scope of work consists of diversion of an existing sewer and storm drain together with construction of an elevated slab deck that will form the base for the new track. The trackwork will start in mid December 2012 and consists of the supply and installation of approximately 1.6km of new plain line  track, five new 1:9 turnouts, a fixed diamond crossing, 1.8km of third rail and five new buffer stops.

The Ulu Pandan Depot  is scheduled for completion by 30 November  2013 and  the Bishan depot trackwork on 15 September 2013.
