Balfour Beatty team lands Delaware power plant contract

7 Jan 13 Balfour Beatty has announced that its subsidiary Parsons Brinckerhoff, in joint venture with Kvaerner, has won a contract to design and build a power plant in Delaware, USA.

The contract with Calpine Garrison is for the Garrison Energy Center, a 309MW combined cycle gas-fired plant.

The joint venture will perform the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the facility.  Parsons Brinckerhoff will be responsible for the design and procurement of the balance of plant equipment and the commissioning. Kvaerner will lead the joint venture as well as perform the construction of the facility.

"The award of this contract to design and build the Garrison Energy Center aligns with our strategy to focus on the power sector,” said Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler. “As the industry continues to shift to cleaner burning natural gas, we anticipate a significant number of gas-fired power plant opportunities, especially in North America over the next decade, and we are well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities."

The project is expected to begin construction in early 2013 with completion expected during the summer of 2015.
