BAM Construction is rebuilding Lees Brook Community School on its existing site in Chaddesden, Derby.

The 12-month project is part of the government’s Priority Schools Building Programme.

Lees Brook was selected as one of the schools in greatest need of new buildings, and pupils will move into the new facilities after October half-term 2014.

BAM is constructing a three-floor main building for 1,100 pupils aged 11 to 16, with classrooms to be equipped for modern learning. The contractor is also refurbishing the sports hall and creating new changing rooms.

It is part of a £27m contract awarded to BAM by the Education Funding Agency to create new buildings for four schools across the Midlands.

BAM hopes to receive planning permission this year to start on site at Hallmoor School in Birmingham and Fountaindale School in Mansfield.

A planning application for Heathlands Primary School in Birmingham is expected soon.

Construction director David Ellis said: “With our sister company BAM Design providing the architecture, services and structural design, we are able to offer an integrated design-and-build team that gets to work on urgent projects like this with the quality and efficiency needed in the current economic climate.”
