BAM to provide 'concrete armour' for LNG terminal

3 Apr 12 BAM Infraconsult has signed a licence agreement for the use of its Xbloc concrete armour on the new LNG Terminal in Dunkerque, France.

The agreement been signed under BAM’s trade name Delta Marine Consultants with a joint venture of Sodraco International SAS, Bouygues Travaux Publics Régions France, Colas Nord Picardie and Menard.

The Dunkerque project will use 3,000 Xblocs of 6m3. The units will be produced on the project site and production is expected to start this month. Unit placement is expected to begin in the second half of 2012. The Dunkerque project is the fourth LNG terminal for which Xbloc is applied to provide protection against the waves.

Xbloc is a patented concrete armour unit, which has been developed by BAM for shore protection and breakwaters. The structure is claimed to require considerably less concrete compared to other armouring systems and BAM said that the units can be placed faster.
