BDP director named businesswoman of the year

29 Mar 11 Civil engineer Michelle McDowell, chair of civil and structural engineering at consultant BDP, has been named the Veuve Cliquot business woman of the year.

In 2010, she was awarded an MBE for services to the construction industry and was the chair of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) – the organisation's first woman head in its 97-year history. She

Ms McDowell, 47, has more than 25 years’ experience in the engineering profession and has worked on award winning schemes across all sectors.  High profile projects include the redevelopment of the Royal Albert Hall.

The judges selected Ms McDowell for her success in the male-dominated world of construction and for her role as a mentor to female engineers within BDP and the creation of a bursary scheme for female engineering students at Cambridge University.
