Bellway and Jewson - building sustainably

31 Jan 11 Bellway Homes has appointed Jewson, supplier of sustainable timber and building materials, as one of its major suppliers due to the merchant's national network and strong environmental ethos.

Jewson is supplying Chain of Custody Approved timber and timber products as well as heavyside materials.

Bellway Homes, one of the UK's largest housebuilders with operations spanning the length and breadth of the country, is part of the Bellway Group - which has provided more than 100,000 homes since it was formed in 1946.

Responsible timber procurement has long been high on the agenda for Bellway Homes and the decision was made to partner with Jewson - the largest importer of timber and timber products into the UK. Jewson provides a national network of branches supplying Chain of Custody certification for timber products, sheet materials and engineered solutions. Chain of Custody is a process that, using independent auditing, rigorously documents certified timber from the forest to the final point of purchase to guarantee to the end user that the product has been procured from a legal and well managed source.

"At Bellway Homes we have long championed the need to build homes that meet the needs of a sustainable environment and it was essential that we partnered with a supplier that shared these values," explained Julian Kenyon Group PR Manager at Bellway Homes.

In addition, Jewson's extensive experience in the housebuilding sector means that the builders' merchant can often provide bespoke or flexible solutions. Jewson worked closely with the Bellway Group procurement team and regional buyers to provide a national group deal to streamline processes and improve efficiencies.

The role of the merchant within the supply chain has changed and Jewson is leading the way developing new service and delivery models to add value for housebuilders.
