Bilfinger Berger wins offshore wind contract

18 Apr 11 Bilfinger Berger and its Danish partner Per Aarsleff have won a contract to build the foundations for 80 offshore turbines at the new DanTysk wind farm in the North Sea.

The clients for the construction are energy group Vattenfall and the city of Munich's public utility company.  The site is 70km west of the North Sea island of Sylt. The price of the work is not being disclosed but is described as being in the three-digit million range.

The project includes design, prefabrication and installation of monopiles up to 65m long. The steel pipes have a diameter of up to 6m and the largest weigh 730t. They will be driven into the seabed at water depths of up to 32m. To connect the wind turbines to the foundations, they will be fitted with steel adapter elements, each weighing 250t.
