Birmingham civils contractor in administration

21 Feb 14 Birmingham-based civil engineering contractor T. Mullane Limited is in administration and has ceased trading.

James Martin and Mark Newman of CCW Recovery Solutions LLP were appointed joint administrators of the company on 14 February 2014.

All 30 staff have been made redundant.

Managing director Tim Mullane said: "The last two years of trading have proved to be particularly difficult in the construction industry. Turnover has continued to fall and margins have been squeezed to an unsustainable level."

T. Mullane specialised in ground work and civil engineering and has been in business for approximately 30 years. In recent years it has done a lot of subcontract work for majors such as Willmott Dixon and Shepherd Construction, particularly on school building projects. It also worked on St Modwen’s Longbridge housing development.

Just a couple of years ago it renewed its excavator fleet with six new Volvo EC210C machines and two new EC140Cs .
