Bouygues wins French libel case

15 Mar 12 A French court has recognised that an article published by Le Canard Enchaîné on 7 December 2011 contained five libellous passages concerning Bouygues.

The allegations related to Bouygues’ French Ministry of Defence contract.

The 17th division of the Paris District Court also observed that Le Canard Enchaîné - France's equivalent of Private Eye - failed to provide any evidence that a judicial investigation into Bouygues was in progress. However, it recognised that the journalists had acted in good faith.

The Bouygues group said that it welcomed the fact that the majority of the allegations made by the magazine were found to be libellous. The court confirmed that Bouygues is not under investigation for corruption in connection with the award of the contract for the French Ministry of Defence's new headquarters at Balard in Paris.

Bouygues signed the contract in June 2011.
