Breedon Aggregates helps drive home Mallory Park circuit upgrade

9 Feb 11 The £500,000 Mallory Park motor sport circuit upgrade has been completed ahead of schedule by local Leicestershire contractors using a special modified asphalt produced by Breedon Aggregates.

The resulting improved running will help the track attract more high profile events.

The1.39-mile long track, billed as the most viewer-friendly motorsport venue in the country, was completely resurfaced in specially mixed material supplied by Breedon Aggregates’ Leaton asphalt plant.  The unique surface provides superb grip and should see lap times tumble come Spring and Summer 2011.

Breedon Aggregates worked with main contractor, Jordan Road Surfacing, to complete the upgrade well ahead of Mallory Park’s first meeting of 2011 – The Buildbase Mallory Trophy Championship Motorcycle Races on Sunday 6th March.

Approximately 2,000 tonnes of Breedon Aggregates material was used, resurfacing a total area of 23,000 square metres with a contract value of more than £200,000 to Breedon Aggregates.

Last month Mallory Park general manager John Ward said: “The circuit will benefit enormously from the new surface and riders, drivers and competitors will find a new grippy surface to enjoy.“

The renovation of the circuit is expected to lead to an increase in interest from major motorcycle and car race promoters and organisers in 2011 and 2012.

Tim Hall, chief executive of Breedon Aggregates England added: “We’re proud to have played a part in improving Mallory Park and it’s great to be able to deliver and lay such a special high-performance material ahead of schedule.”
