Breedon Aggregates wins asphalt supplies for Dundee Airport contract

13 Jun 11 Breedon Aggregates Scotland has secured a contract valued at around £1 million to supply 13,500 tonnes of asphalt to resurface key parts of Dundee Airport, billed as Scotland’s ‘gateway to golf’.

The order, from Lafarge Contracting, which is undertaking improvements at the airport, will be used to resurface the runway and the ‘apron’, the areas used for loading, unloading or maintaining aircraft.

The improvements are scheduled to take place between June and August this year and are being completed overnight and at suitable windows during weekends, to minimise the impact on passengers.

Alan Mackenzie, chief executive of Breedon Aggregates Scotland, said: “We are looking forward to working with Lafarge to ensure that the improvements to Dundee Airport are delivered effectively.  A smooth, robust surface is obviously a prerequisite for a runway, so it’s a testament to the quality of our surfacing materials that we’ve been chosen for this job.”

The company has seen increasing demand for building materials from the commercial and leisure sectors in the past 12 months.

Alan Mackenzie added: “We have performed strongly over the past 18 months under difficult trading conditions.  With public sector cuts bound to affect major infrastructure projects, it is the quality of your product and efficiency of delivery that will count – and that’s something we have a strong reputation for.”
