Breedon buys Nottingham Readymix

17 Jan 12 Breedon Aggregates is entering the Nottingham ready-mixed concrete market with the acquisition of Nottingham Readymix.

Breedon said that the acquisition filled a gap in its coverage of the East Midlands, with Norringham midway between its plants at Cloud Hill to the southwest and Grantham to the east.

Nottingham Readymix is the leading supplier of ready-mixed concrete in the city. Key projects in the area include the £600m Nottingham tram project due to start in 2012.

Breedon Aggregates group chief executive Simon Vivian said: “This is a great business with deep roots in the Nottinghamshire community and we are proud to welcome it as the newest member of the Breedon Aggregates group.

“Our success at Breedon Aggregates has been built on giving our customers an outstanding service, delivered locally, promptly and to the highest possible quality.  Nottingham Readymix has exactly the same ethos. From a practical point of view, nothing will change following this acquisition. The business will continue to trade as Nottingham Readymix and its senior management team will continue to run the business day-to-day, providing the same level of excellent service.”

Nottingham Readymix will in due course become Breedon Aggregates’ Nottinghamshire hub, from which the company intends to develop its ready-mixed concrete operations over the next few years.  The team there will work closely with Breedon Aggregates’ flagship quarry at Cloud Hill near Breedon-on-the-Hill, which will supply them with crushed rock.

Nottingham Readymix was established by Johnsons Aggregates in 2008.

It has 11 employees and operates a computerised batching plant at its site in Dunkirk, delivering a range of ready-mixed concrete products to the local area in its fleet of four-, six- and eight-metre truck mixers.  It is also a mini-mix specialist, supplying to customers who require smaller loads for commercial or domestic use.
