Brent Housing PFI Project Receives Sustainable Development Award

24 Jan 11 On Thursday 20 January, the Fawood and Winchelsea housing developments in Brent - part of the Brent Housing & Social Care PFI project " were awarded a sustainable development award, the Ecosite label.

The Ecosite label is recognition of the environmental standards that have been met by everyone involved on the Fawood and Winchelsea projects, based on the most stringent regulations and exemplary practices observed within Bouygues Construction, the parent company of Bouygues UK and Warings, the companies building the properties within the Brent Housing & Social Care PFI scheme.

The Ecosite label is granted to Bouygues projects which meet the following 11 criteria: analysis of environmental risks, waste management, hazardous products, reduction of site noise, air quality, the quality of the aquatic environment, conservation of biodiversity, reduction of energy consumption, cleanliness and tidiness, communications and handling of emergency situations.

Brent Coefficient (BCE), part of the Hyde Group, was appointed by Brent Council to deliver the Brent Housing & Social Care Private Finance Initiative. BCE – consisting of Bouygues UK (Construction), Hyde Housing Association (Housing Management) and Ian Williams Ltd (Property Management) - will deliver 364 homes for homeless families and 20 care dwellings across the borough.

Managing Director of Bouygues UK Lionel Christolomme, who presented the award to the site teams, said:

“It’s a real achievement to have fulfilled the extensive criteria required for the Ecosite label so I am very proud that both the Fawood and Winchelsea have achieved the award. Commitment to protecting the environments in which we work is essential for Bouygues UK so it’s great that this has been recognised by the wider Bouygues Group.”

"We are delighted that Bouygues UK, as part of the Brent CoEfficient PFI consortium working in partnership with Brent  Council, has embraced the project’s sustainability goals and won this award for the Fawood and Winchelsea developments;   Bouygues is building 384 new flats in total and four of the thirteen sites are using state of the art biomass boilers providing heat  and hot  water for residents which reduce the detrimental effects to the environment. 

“We are very pleased to be providing much needed new affordable housing and management and maintenance services across the borough, regenerating local communities supported by our excellent PFI delivery team.”

“The Hyde Group has high environmental standards so we are very pleased our partner, Bouygues UK, has received recognition for its outstanding levels of control on site.

“Over the next five years the Hyde Group is committing £19.8 million to raising the environmental standards of our homes and we will continue to work with all our partners to minimise our impact on the environment.”
