Builders' federation parts company with boss

1 Feb 12 Federation of Master Builders director general Richard Diment has been let go.

Mr Diment had been on 'indefinite leave' from the organisation for three months after a differece of opinion with the FMB's elected leaders. It is understood that Mr Diment had wanted to address declining membership of Britain's biggest construction trade association with methods more radical than many members were prepared to accept, including trimming the regional office network.

Mr Diment had headed the FMB since 2007. Experienced with trade association politics he had previously been chief executive of the Ambulance Service Association and the British Road Federation.

Yesterday the FMB issued a statement that read:

“The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) and Richard Diment have agreed that now is an appropriate time for Richard to pursue other interests. During his nearly five years as our Director General he has been an effective advocate for members and the wider construction industry during very difficult economic times.

“He has done much to help ensure that the FMB is fully engaged in all the key issues that affect members and impact on the success of their businesses.

“The changes that Richard oversaw at the FMB in areas such as raising standards for entry and enhanced services for members will benefit the FMB and its members for many years to come.

"The FMB wishes Richard every success in the future.”
