Bureau Veritas buys building compliance specialist

2 Mar 16 Inspection, testing and certification firm Bureau Veritas has acquired HCD, which provides building compliance services to clients including most top contractors.

HCD focuses on services including building control approved inspector services, fire safety engineering and technical support for construction, design and management (CDM) regulation for the development sector and structural/civil engineering. It works with 15 of the UK’s top 20 contractors as well as blue-chip companies such as Sainsbury’s and British Land.

Bureau Veritas said that the deal will enable it to offer clients a full ‘end to end’ service in health, safety, environment and quality. The combined business will employ over 1,200 people in the UK across 14 regional offices.

Ken Smith, country chief executive for Bureau Veritas, said: “HCD is a great cultural and strategic fit for our business.” He added that the acquisition will significantly strengthen the service offering to clients, open up new markets and help achieve plans for growth.

Steve Highwood, business development director at HCD, is one of a number of board members staying on post-acquisition. He added: “This is an exciting and positive new chapter for HCD. Bureau Veritas will provide the business with the scale, structure and investment to build on the success of the company to date, offer opportunities for our teams and expand our current service offering to clients.”
