Cat launches smarter version of D6K2 dozer

1 Mar 16 Caterpillar had made its D6K2 dozer smarter and faster with the addition of new technology and an updated undercarriage.

The dozer now features a suite of ‘Grade for Dozers’ technologies as well as the updated undercarriage to support faster finish grading speeds.

A Cat C4.4 Acert engine with twin turbochargers and new hydrostatic transmission up to 17% better fuel efficiency over the previous model. Rated at 97 kW net, the dozer meets EU Stage IV emission standards.

The Cat Grade features have been developed to help control the blade to enable more quality work to be done in less time. Experienced operators can work more productively and less experienced operators can achieve better quality results more quickly, according to the company. The features are integrated right into the machine at the factory - no additional hardware or software is required.

Cat Slope Assist helps operators reach the target slope quickly by automatically maintaining the dozer blade’s established angles. The company claims that work can be finished up to 39% faster, with up to 68% better surface quality and using up to 82% less operator effort.

Another feature of the system is the Cat Stable Blade, which monitors blade movement and automatically carries out adjustments, in concert with the operator, to achieve a smoother grade more quickly and with less effort.

Cat Slope Indicate displays machine cross slope and fore/aft orientation on the primary monitor, helping operators put the machine on a desired slope and maintain that grade throughout each pass.

For tackling more complex design plans, the D6K2 can be fitted with optional technology features combine digital design data, in-cab guidance, and automatic blade control.
