Civil engineer Mr Waboso is responsible for delivering the £1.3bn a year upgrade of the Tube systems, and is described by London's transport commissioner Sir Peter Hendy as “a giant in his profession with a world-wide reputation”.
However, it was a notably light year for the construction industry. Concrete expert Cliff Billington, the technical director of J&P Building Systems, was recognised with an MBE.
Also getting MBEs were Reading University professor of construction management Peter Lansley, for services to research into ageing and well-being of older people, and BRE Group research director Dr Deborah Pullen, for services to innovation and knowledge transfer in the construction industry.
Banker Paul Skinner got a CBE for chairing Infrastructure UK.
