CHSG Annual Awards Ceremony Celebrates Training Excellence in Construction Industry

31 Mar 11 The Construction Health and Safety Group (CHSG) celebrated another year of training excellence at its annual awards ceremony on March 24, 2011.

The event was held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane and included 200 invited guests from across the construction industry, including Philip White - chief inspector of construction for the HSE, who confirmed his continued support for the work of the company.

Awards in the following categories were made for exceptional commitment to training for the benefit of their employees:

Large company - Geoffrey Osborne Ltd.

Small company - Construction Project Services UK

Principal contractor - Knight Harwood Ltd.

House building - Fairview New Homes

Specialist contractor - Lovell Partnerships Ltd. / A J Morrisroe & Sons Ltd.

Outstanding contribution to training - Persimmon Homes Ltd.

New Member - ME Construction Ltd.

The prestigious Beaumont Safety Trophy Sponsored by Shirley Parsons Associates Ltd was awarded to Knight Harwood Ltd. for its simple yet effective hazard awareness board. CHSG has offered this award since 1966 in recognition of the best new device or method of working system that has been implemented by the entrant for the prevention of accidents. This year, judges were overwhelmed by the volume of good entries and found it hard to pick just one so a Highly Commended Certificate was given to runners-up, Stair Master Ltd. for its innovative idea for safe methods of construction where stair cores require multiple flights.

The Chairman's Special Award recognises valuable and outstanding services rendered to the group. This year it was given to Sean Elson of Pinsent Masons for his continued support and commitment to CHSG over the years, this award was kindly Sponsored by All Day Safety Services Ltd Awards were announced by CHSG President, Mike Robinson who said:

“The CHSG Annual Awards is a great way of showcasing the industry’s most outstanding contributions to training. 2010 saw a large volume of high-caliber entrants from across the sector, which is why we had to show some recognition to the runner-up of the Beaumont Safety Trophy.” Mike Robinson also praised the group's chairman, Bob Hackett for the dedication and hard work put in over the last few years. The AGM will see the end of Hackett's term as chairman and a vote of thanks was shown on behalf of the members.
