CITB business plan emphasises political role

25 Jan 13 CITB-ConstructionSkills has published its plans for meeting the construction industry’s training and skills needs for the next three years, with its priorities unchanged but for a growing emphasis on lobbying.

The organisation’s 2013- 2015 business plan focuses on helping match the industry skills base to client needs, to the benefit of the national economy.

However, CITB-ConstructionSkills is increasingly adopting a political tone, expressing opinions on government policy and economic matters, and getting involved in lobbying campaigns such as Construction4Growth.

It appears to be no longer satisfied with just being a training body and now wants to use its influence to be a voice for the industry, and promoting construction up the political agenda.

CEO Mark Farrar said: “For the best part of 50 years, CITB-ConstructionSkills has been working with the construction industry to meet its skills and training needs. Now, in the depths of the downturn, it is essential that we continue to support the industry in developing the highly skilled professionals it needs to meet the immediate challenges and prepare for the future.”
