CLC and Croudace add to safety award award tally

4 May 11 Contractor CLC Group and house builder Croudace Homes have added to their haul of British Safety Council International Safety Awards (ISA), each winning in the new distinction category. CLC Group and Croudace Homes have already won ISAs for 32 and 30 consecutive years respectively.

More than 600 organisations applied for the award, which was opened up to non-members for the first time this year with new distinction and merit categories added.

Other winners of distinctions include Brookfield Multiplex Construction Europe, Dounreay Site Restoration, Galliford Try International, Howden Joinery’s supply division, SDC Builders and Wembley City Estate Management.

“The response to the awards has been remarkable, especially as we decided to raise the bar and introduce new categories in order to challenge companies to do even better,” said British Safety Council chief executive Julie Nerney. “And do better they certainly did, with 33 of the 546 winners achieving a 100% pass rate and a distinction,  283 attaining a merit and 230 others a pass.”

The ISAs are judged by an independent panel of experts who look for hard evidence of how an organisation maintains acceptable standards of health and safety on the ground.

“Health and safety regulation is under the spotlight as never before and we must all do our utmost to achieve better results with fewer resources,” said Nerney. “The benefits that well managed health and safety bring both to business and to the economy are well documented.  Successful business management and well managed health and safety go hand-in-hand.

“But the wellbeing of workers is non-negotiable and all of these winners have demonstrated their leadership in this vital area and their determination, like us, to do everything they can to ensure that no one is killed, injured or made ill by their work.”

Winners have the opportunity of receiving their awards at a banquet at the Grosvenor House in Park Lane, London, on Friday 20 May. Distinction winners who attend will receive a citation and collect their award in front of their peers and VIPs from the sector.
