Clugston wins £8m waste treatment plant

28 Apr 11 Clugston Construction has won an £8m contract to build a waste treatment and recycling facility in North Lincolnshire.

The plant, which is part of a £250m contract for North Lincolnshire Council, will involve building a mechanical biological treatment plant on a 10 acre site at the Normanby Enterprise Park in Flixborough.

Clugston Construction will work alongside its partner Waste Recycling Group (WRG), part of the FCC Group. 

The project is expected to reduce the amount of waste that the council sends to landfill by 87%. The plant is designed to will handle 69,000t of rubbish per year and will process residual waste, turning it into Climafuel, an alternative fuel originally developed by Cemex for use at its kilns at South Ferriby, Lincolnshire. Climafuel has been used at the South Ferriby site as an alternative to traditional fossil fuels since 2006.

The award follows a £40m contract for Clugston, in partnership with CNIM, to build an energy from waste (EfW) facility in North Hykeham for neighbouring Lincolnshire County Council.
