Consultant appointed to support Afghan construction

19 Apr 11 Grontmij’s German business has been appointed to provide consulting services for five provinces in Afghanistan.

The company will support local authorities in the construction, expansion and renovation of local infrastructure. The total project amount is approximately €8m (£7m), with Grontmij’s work worth €3 million. The project will last for 3 years.

Grontmij will carry out feasibility studies and cost-benefit analysis and will provide support to the Afghan authorities in the selection of suitable projects and advise them on time frames, target groups and technical implementation.

It will help local support teams responsible for the construction of roads and bridges, flood protection measures, aquifers and water and power supply.

The project is funded by the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) which was set up by the German and the Afghan governments.
