Consultant picked for next phases of £3.4bn Qatar scheme

16 Jun 11 Gensler has been appointed as lead consultant for the second and third phases of Msheireb Properties’ QR 20 billion (£3.37bn) flagship Msheireb project.

Under two separate agreements, Gensler will undertake the design of the project’s Retail Galleria in phase two in addition to undertaking the lead consultant duties in both the second and third phases. This will cover detailed design works for buildings designed by a total of six design firms including Gensler, through to construction documentation stage and full-time site supervision.

The scope of services for the second phase consists of comprehensive design supervision of 10 mixed use buildings totalling a gross floor area of 144,888m2. For phase 3, Gensler will also oversee the design of 14 buildings, with a total area of 151,300m2 and including residential, retail and office space, a hotel, community areas and a mosque.

The Msheireb scheme is designed to transform a 31ha site at the centre of Doha and attract residents back to the city centre. Due for completion in 2016, the scheme will see Msheireb Properties construct over 100 buildings, while preserving key heritage buildings.

Msheireb Properties recently changed its name from Dohaland in a move intended to reflect the significance the project to the company.
