Contractor picked for Bridgend school assignment

19 Jan 17 Port Talbot building firm Andrew Scott Ltd has won a £9.1m contract to build a new primary school for Bridgend County Borough Council.

Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Cwm Garw will move from its current location in Pontycymer to a new site next to the current Betws Primary School in January 2019.

Andrew Scott will build the new school on the land that used to house Betws’ junior school block before it was destroyed by fire four years ago. The new Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Cwm Garw school will have 210 places for pupils aged between four and 11 as well as 45 nursery places.

The new school is a key project for Bridgend County Borough Council’s school modernisation programme and the Welsh government’s 21st century school programme.
